My Plan

Treatment for Children

From around age of 7 years old or any children with concerns in regard to facial and teeth development need to be seen for orthodontic consultation. Early orthodontic evaluation of the child’s existing and incoming teeth determines whether early treatment might be necessary to minimise or prevent possible future problems. It’s never too early for your child to have an orthodontic assessment!

There are several ways you can determine whether your child needs early treatment. These include:

  • Early (before age 5), late (after age five or six) or irregular loss of baby teeth
  • The child’s teeth do not meet properly or at all
  • The child is a mouth breather
  • Snoring or sleep apnoea
  • Crowding, missing or misplaced adult teeth
  • Front teeth are crowded (you won’t see this until the child is about seven or eight)
  • Protruding teeth, typically in the front
  • Biting or chewing difficulties
  • Underbite or overbite
  • A speech impediment
  • The child’s jaw shifts when he or she opens or closes the mouth
  • Thumb sucking beyond the age of 5

If any of the above characteristics or behaviour’s are observed, it is important to visit an orthodontist. At Simply Braces, we offer ‘Free Initial Assessment’ for children under 8 years old. Call us to make an appointment.

Braces or early orthodontic treatment may not begin straight after the initial evaluation; however, it is helpful in determining whether your child has any problems with the jaw and teeth early and monitoring for the correct timing of treatment. Some early orthodontic treatments include functional appliances such as:

  • Expander: Widens the palate and dental arch to improve the bite
  • Facemasks: Pulls the top jaw and teeth forward
  • Headgear: Commonly used for correcting back-to-front jaw discrepancies; slows/stops the upper jaw growth to prevent or correct an overjet but also can be used to make space for teeth to erupt.

Treatment for Teens

The teenage years are an important time for orthodontic treatment as the jaw bones start to harden.

Usually, around the age of 12-14 is a good time for girls to start their orthodontic treatment and age 14-16 for boys. At these times, teenagers can be very self-conscious about their appearance, and wearing braces can be off-putting. Others may be involved in sports teams or play musical instruments which can be affected by wearing braces.

However, Simply Braces offer a range of braces and services to allow the experience to be as comfortable and minimise impact on the special teenage years.

The most common braces worn by teenagers:

  • Traditional metal braces (for colors and/or budget-conscious)
  • Clear braces (for appearance-conscious)

Both types of braces work in precisely the same way and produce the same results.

Treatment for Adults

Orthodontic treatment is not only suitable for teenagers but also for adults! If you missed out on orthodontic treatment as a child/teenager, and were never satisfied with the crooked teeth, you can now have that fixed!

We offer a range of treatment options to accommodate the busy lifestyle, so that the experience is not only comfortable but also aesthetically pleasing.

  • Clear braces
  • Invisalign
  • Incognito hidden braces

You’re NEVER TOO OLD to get braces!
